Paradise.

We just got back from a week in paradise with Luke's family. Specifically the island of Vieques just off the coast of Puerto Rico. It was amazing. We flew from Raleigh to Miami to San Juan and then hopped on a little ten passenger airplane for a 25 minute flight to the island of Vieques.

nice and cozy

Jordan and I were assigned the last row of the airplane both coming and going.
That's where the cool kids sit.

Paradise here we come!

We stayed at the Esperanza Inn. Just a block from the beach.
Leave it to Luke to spice up my photos.

We hit up six different beaches while we were there. One REALLY nice thing about Vieques is how NOT touristy it is. Many times we were the only ones on the beach. Kind of felt like our own private paradise.

Vieques is full of wild life. We saw...
mongoose

hermit crabs

iguanas

geckos

wild horses

crazy colored catepillars

and a DEAD tarantula

There are also cats, dogs, and roosters all over the island.

While snorkeling we saw...
lots of colorful fish
lion fish
barracuda
octopus
turtles
sting ray
manta ray
spotted eagle ray
nurse shark (only Luke saw it--thank goodness!)
eels
lobsters
crabs, clams, conch shells

Luke was in SNORKELING HEAVEN and so was Jordan. He claimed Lisa's snorkel gear as his own and tagged along with Grandma or Luke whenever they went snorkeling.

Jordan snorkeling with Grandma.

One morning we hiked to the black sand beach...

The food on the island is delicious! And when you're on vacation, ice cream for breakfast is a must.

Poor cousin Carter was sick for most of the trip. He did start to perk up towards the end though!

Aren't I a lucky girl?!

On Sunday we hit up the local branch for church--all in spanish.

And then did some exploring. First stop the the Fort.

I'm pretty sure these two were born in the WRONG time period. They are such history buffs. While they were busy discussing and hypothesizing...

Jordan was busy shooting canons at the pirates.

And I just posed for pictures.

After a nap we headed back out for a little hike in the jungle to find the old sugar mill remains and trains. Mission accomplished.

And stopped to study the oldest tree on the island. Supposedly over 300 years old.

Vieques is amazing and we had such a wonderful trip!

We can't wait for a repeat trip in 2014!

Holy Cow, you are the luckiest girl, I swear you go everywhere! However, I hate flying so your little 10 passenger flight would have had me cussing up a storm! How many members were in the church you attended?

I could go on and on about how jealous I am, but I'll just put it to you by mentioning we are supposed to get 20 inches of snow in the next three days.

What an ADVENTURE! Love that Luke was sporting his wetsuit again. Not a beach vacation goes by without that piece of art. My personal favorite is Luke's behind. :)

I agree with Monica, what is a beach vacation without Luke in a wet suit?
