Family Scrapbook

First a bit of a background...

Last March, Luke's cousin Josh passed away. Jordan and I were lucky enough to be in Chicago right before he got sick and to spend time with him. I remember we were hanging out at Josh's house on Saturday night and on the table was a scrapbook he had made for a senior project. I picked it up to look through it and I remember Josh being a bit embarrassed at first, but then he started to tell me about all the pictures. Of course being a scrapbooker, I thought it was so cool. He had written about his family, his cousins, his grandparents, what it was like growing up, his friends, etc. The next day Josh suffered a brain hemorrhage and five days later he passed away.

I remember in the days following Josh's death, his mother referred to his scrapbook as one of Heavenly Father's tender mercies. That left a huge impression on me.

When we got back from Chicago I decided that I wanted to keep a better scrapbook/journal of our family so that we could look back and remember the moments/milestones/events/etc. I decided to do a page a week and then at the end of the year have it printed into a 12x12 book by Shutterfly.

As I went along I uploaded the pages to a blog so that my family (okay my mom, lol) could see it. I just finished the last layouts today and will get the book printed soon. It was really fun to put together and to go back and reflect on all we have done this year and see how much Jordan has grown.

I haven't decided if I will do the same format again this year...but I do know that I will do something.

That looks great! Do you use a special program to scrapbook with? Is it easy to use?

Sorry Alicia, I was blog snooping this morning and ran across your post (hope you don't mind). So sorry about your relatives passing but what an awesome way (and dedicated I must say!) way to continue a lesson learned from him. I think I may take the idea and do the same, seems to be a lot easier/quicker way to get your memories in print!

So wait. You do all of this online? I am not sure I understand. One page a day? No paper involved? I have heard of Shutterfly. Fill me in, I would love to get in on something like this. Thanks for sharing the story.

Wow didn't expect to cry, did you know that LJ gave Lisa and all her kids a hard copy of the scapbook for Christmas. It's easier to make a scrapbook when your dealing with the cutest kid on earth. Jordan. Granny S can only say that until July then money willhave to be involved
